Government of India has asked the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) to relax norms required for issuing construction permits with the intent of speeding up construction activities in the state.
The statement from the government comes on the back of a report that shows just 4 planning permits, out of the 2,200 applications received by the Chennai Corporation in the last 8 months, have been issued.
The CMDA has agreed, and announced that the corporation would seek only Encumbrance Certificates for individual plots instead of the entire layout. However, all aspects of the relaxations will be finalised and announced in two days as the process of framing operating guidelines has begun, said an official close to the matter. The move, the corporation hopes, would speed up the process of construction in the State.
